HI THERE
I 've been writing travel articles for the Boston Globe , Yankee Magazine and other publications for many years. My first book How New England
Happened ( Little Brown) presented the region's history
in terms of places you can visit. Since then I've launched two guidebook series: The Best Places to Stay series which is no longer in print and the Explorers Guides published by Countryman
Press
( now a subsidiary of WWW.Norton), which continues to grow and has
become one of the most successful and widely respected travel series in
the country.
Maine an Explorer's Guide,
now in its 14th edition, has sold more than 250,000 copies. I 'm
indebted to a series of Maine co-aouthors, most recently to Nancy
English of Portland
My able co-author for the current, 11th edition of Vermont an Explorer's Guide is Diane Foulds of Burlington and Chrinstine Hamm of Hopkington co-authors the 6th edition of New Hampshire, An Explorer's Guide.
The format for Exlorers Guides is so detailed that Massachusetts, the first guide in this series, has morphed into The Berkshire Hills and Pioneer Valley, an Explorer's Guide which I co-author with Bill Davis, former Boston Globe travel editor and feature writer and my husband.
I'm a member of the Society of American Travel Writers a former member of its Guidebook Institute and a fomer New England chapter chair of SATW. I have also received awards from the
New England InnKeepers and the Maime Tourism Association and recieved a Lila-Wallace
fellowship to research the history of New England tourism at theAmerican Antiquarian Society.
